Unconditional Love and Healing
TLC Sanctuary is an extension of the big-hearted work of Tracey Campbell at her farm in Cornville, Arizona.
Tracey took on abandoned horses and saw how safety, love, and quality care transformed “throw away” horses into happy and healthy animals. Other rescue organizations and even the Sherriff’s Department started asking her to intervene in emergencies, but she only had space for a few animals.
Tracey founded TLC Sanctuary to extend her effective approaches to horse rehabilitation and sanctuary services to more animals.
Now with a Board, volunteers, and a growing number of founding supporters, TLC Sanctuary is a fully incorporated organization with a mission of ensuring that all horses have respectful care for the duration of their lifetimes.
Believing that healing goes both ways, TLC Sanctuary partners with gentle, respectful horse therapy programs for people working through trauma and injury.
Our Land
TLC Sancuary is blessed to use barn, pastures and pens on beautiful acreage next to Oak Creek in Cornville, Arizona. The facilities are adjacent to Nature Conservancy land with pristine riverfront riding areas and ponds full of life. Under towering, ancient cottonwood trees, TLC Sanctuary truly feels like an oasis in the heart of the high desert.
The Horse that Inspired it All
Lil’ Miss is the horse that launched a mission that led to the creation of TLC Sanctuary. Lil’ Miss was “a skinny old mare” according to rescuer Tracey Campbell. She was being retired from a large trail riding business, where she had served for long time. She was skin and bones with dull, lifeless eyes. But with peace, security, and a whole lot of nutrition, Lil’ Miss came back around to her spunky self—and Tracey was never the same.
“Horses are used their whole lives by humans, then are just thrown away,” she says. “When I realized how many horses like Lil’ Miss existed out there, how many needed a place to be . . .there is just such great need. It’s what drives me every day.”
